Ground turkey? Herbs? Pasta? yum!I hope everyone had a great weekend! my weekend was very relaxing and the weather was lovely. now that Monday is right around the corner, heres a yummy way to start off your week right–good carbs and lean protein!
I used 100% whole wheat multigrain pasta which adds a healthy dose of fibre per serving. fibre is indeed very essential in our diet because its assists with healthy bowel movement and keeps you fuller longer. I am always very careful when purchasing anything that is labeled as multigrain because I find that some products are not exactly 100% multigrain.
However, the catch is that unless it specifies that it is 100% whole wheat or 100% whole grain, it may still be made primarily from white flour, which strips it of its nutritional value. When shopping for multigrain/whole grain products like bread, pasta or cereal, make sure you study the ingredients carefully so you can get your money’s worth!
Ingredients: yields 6 servings
1 pack multigrain pasta
1lb lean ground turkey

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tsp basil leaves (dried)
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Fresh parsley (for topping)
1. Place skillet over medium heat and add 1 tbsp olive oil. add onions and garlic and sauté, then add ground turkey, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and basil and mix continuously until there is no more pink left in the turkey. When the turkey is fully cooked, add pasta sauce and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 1 minute, then remove from heat and set aside.
2. In a large pot, boil pasta for 10-15 minutes (or follow instructions on the package). When ready, add pasta to ground turkey and toss, then transfer onto a large serving bowl. Top with tomatoes and parsley.
